Apr\u00e8s se premi\u00e8res armes \u00e0 Europe n\u00b01, sa profession-passion de grand reporter \u00e0 France Soir se double d&rsquo;une activit\u00e9 litt\u00e9raire. Il consacre un premier livre \u00e0 Al Capone (\u00ab\u00a0Un Am\u00e9ricain peu tranquille\u00a0\u00bb, 1960) et son premier roman, \u00ab\u00a0Des feux mal \u00e9teints\u00a0\u00bb (Gallimard, 1967), \u00e9voque les 730 jours de la guerre d&rsquo;Alg\u00e9rie, qu&rsquo;il vit \u00e0 la fois comme journaliste et militaire \u00e0 Alger. Il revient sur son exp\u00e9rience fondatrice en Virginie dans \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;\u00c9tudiant \u00e9tranger\u00a0\u00bb (1986, Prix Interalli\u00e9), sur son s\u00e9jour dans les for\u00eats du Colorado dans \u00ab\u00a0Un \u00e9t\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;Ouest\u00a0\u00bb (1988, Prix Gutenberg) et \u00ab\u00a0Rendez-vous au Colorado\u00a0\u00bb (1998) puis, sur l&rsquo;assassinat de Kennedy dans \u00ab\u00a0On a tir\u00e9 sur le Pr\u00e9sident\u00a0\u00bb (2013), enqu\u00eate sur place, t\u00e9moignage v\u00e9cu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">D&rsquo;autres titres qui marient l&rsquo;autobiographie et la fiction ponctuent son parcours d&rsquo;\u00e9crivain, entre autres : \u00ab\u00a0Le Petit gar\u00e7on\u00a0\u00bb (1990), \u00ab\u00a0Quinze ans\u00a0\u00bb (1992), \u00ab\u00a0Un d\u00e9but \u00e0 Paris\u00a0\u00bb (1994), \u00ab\u00a0La Travers\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb (1996), \u00ab\u00a0Tomber sept fois, se relever huit\u00a0\u00bb (2003), \u00ab\u00a0Ma m\u00e8re, cette inconnue\u00a0\u00bb (2017), \u00ab\u00a0J&rsquo;irais nager dans plus de rivi\u00e8res\u00a0\u00bb (2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">F\u00e9ru de cin\u00e9ma am\u00e9ricain, il r\u00e9alise sept longs-m\u00e9trages et va mettre en sc\u00e8ne les grands acteurs fran\u00e7ais des ann\u00e9es 1970-1980.<a
